Just back from Handa Island and the puffins were incredible this year. We counted over 200 from the clifftop viewpoint. Season is winding down now but what a year it's been.

Stunning photos from my visit last month. The great skuas were more dramatic than the puffins honestly - watching them dive-bomb other birds is wild. How do you book the boat?

The boat goes from Tarbet (near Scourie). You just turn up at the little harbour - it's a short crossing. No booking needed, just check the weather. Season is roughly April to August.

The walk around the island is brilliant even without the puffins. The Great Stack is one of the most dramatic sea cliffs in Britain. Allow 3-4 hours for the full circuit.

Adding this to my April trip! Oh wait, will puffins be back by late April?
