What's the best month for the NC500? I've been in June and September but curious what others think. Each has pros and cons.

NOT July or August unless you love midges. I went mid-July once and it was genuinely unbearable around Torridon. September is the sweet spot - fewer midges, fewer tourists, autumn colours starting.

If you want puffins, you need late May to mid-July for Handa Island. That's a non-negotiable for me. Worth tolerating the midges.

Late September into early October is magical for photography. The light is incredible, the heather is out, and you get those moody skies. Plus way fewer campervans on the road.

May is underrated. Long daylight hours, wildflowers everywhere, and the roads are quiet. Water might be a bit cold for swimming though!

Spring and autumn are best. Summer is rammed now - the NC500 has become a victim of its own success. The roads weren't built for this volume of traffic.
