After 3 years of chasing sunsets on the NC500, here are my top 5: 1) Clashnessie Beach, 2) Stoer Lighthouse, 3) Big Sand Gairloch, 4) Oldshoremore Beach, 5) The viewpoint above Applecross. Fight me.

Applecross viewpoint is a solid shout. I'd add Mellon Udrigle beach - that west-facing view across to the Summer Isles is extraordinary when the light is right.

Smoo Cave at sunset is magical. Not the cave itself obviously, but the beach beside it looking west. The cliffs glow orange. Properly special.

Achmelvich Beach should be on this list. The turquoise water turns gold at sunset. Looks more like the Caribbean than Scotland.

Ceannabeinne Beach near Durness. Biased because it's my local but honestly, the sunsets there in late summer with the wide open sky are the best I've seen anywhere in Scotland.

Sandwood Bay. Yes you have to walk 4 miles to get there but watching the sunset by the sea stack with nobody else around is worth every step.
