Let's be honest - it's going to rain at some point on the NC500. What do you do on the wet days? Especially with kids in tow.

Dunrobin Castle near Golspie is a rainy day lifesaver. The museum inside is excellent and the falconry display runs rain or shine. Kids love the birds of prey.

Timespan in Helmsdale is a great wee museum and art gallery. The Strathnaver Museum in Bettyhill is small but fascinating - covers the Highland Clearances. Both are good for a couple of hours.

Honestly? Some of the best NC500 moments are in the rain. The waterfalls are spectacular, the lochs are moody and atmospheric. Just get good waterproofs and embrace it!

A distillery tour is the perfect rainy day activity. Old Pulteney in Wick, Clynelish in Brora, or Wolfburn in Thurso. Warm, dry, and there's a dram at the end.
