Taking the family up the north coast this summer. Which beaches are best for kids - looking for shallow water, sandy, and easy to access from a car park?

Balnakeil Beach in Durness is the best family beach on the whole NC500. Huge stretch of white sand, shallow water, easy parking, and Cocoa Mountain is 5 minutes away for bribery hot chocolate.

Achmelvich is stunning and very family-friendly. There's a campsite right beside it too if you want to stay. The water is clear as glass on a calm day.

Sango Sands in Durness has rock pools at low tide that kids absolutely love. Crabs, anemones, small fish - it's like a natural aquarium. Check the tide times before you go.

Sand beach at Applecross is sheltered and calm. Not the biggest beach but the water is warmer than most because it's in a bay. Great for paddling.
