What are your favourite overnight spots along the NC500? Not official campsites - more the quiet laybys and car parks where you can park up for the night undisturbed.

The car park at Clashnessie Beach is incredible. Wake up, walk 2 minutes, and you're on a stunning white sand beach. Gets busy in summer but off-season it's perfect.

Please be responsible with overnight parking. Take all your waste, don't empty grey water in laybys, and move on if there are signs asking you not to stay. We're losing spots because of bad behaviour.

Ceannabeinne Beach layby near Durness. You look out over the beach and if you're lucky, you'll see dolphins from your van window. Magical spot.

The viewpoint car park above Applecross looking out to Skye and Raasay. Sunset there is otherworldly. Arrive early in summer as it fills up.

Big Sand beach near Gairloch. Massive car park right by the beach. One of my all-time favourite spots for photographing the sunset.
